Meet the 18th Dean:
The Very Reverend Kevin E Martin
The
Very Reverend Kevin Martin is the Director of the
Vital Church Ministries, a teaching and consulting outreach of the
Cathedral Church of Saint Matthew, Dallas, Texas.
For ten years, he was the Congregational Development Officer for
the Episcopal Diocese of Texas. He
worked with leaders of the Diocese in the effective development of the
mission and ministry of congregations.
He assisted leaders in attracting new members, evangelism and the
development of new leadership. He
also oversaw the College Work and coordinated our new congregational
starts. His work included
training congregational consultants, oversight of the Ministry Academy for
lay vicars and assisting congregations in times of conflict.
He
served for five years as the Director of Leadership Training in Evergreen,
Colorado. Before this, he served as Rector of three congregations, St.
Luke’s, Seattle, Washington, St. Matthew’s, Westerville, Ohio and
Emmanuel Church, Stamford, Connecticut.
He served for two years as Resident Chaplain at Bethesda Hospital
and Children’s Hospital in Cincinnati.
He
has taught nationwide in the areas of preaching, leadership, and
evangelism. He taught at the
College of Preachers and has contributed as author to several publications
and most recently, updated “Sizing Up the congregation for New Member
Ministry” for our national church office.
Reverend
Martin was raised in the Dallas area, attended North Texas State
University and The Berkeley Divinity (at Yale).
He and his wife Sharon have two grown children and two
grandchildren.
