Welcome to the CCMF!

CCMF class The Cathedral Center for Ministry Formation opened in August of 2005. The primary mission of the Cathedral Center for Ministry Formation is to serve those who are discerning a call to the Diaconate; both to aid them in their discernment process and to provide the necessary theological training for possible ordination as Deacons.  The Cathedral Center is a place where Deacons-in-training can be part of a community, attend graduate-level classes, and experience spiritual growth.   The Cathedral Center has a second mission, which is to offer in-depth study opportunities for lay leaders and continuing study for clergy.  In pursuit of that goal, the Cathedral Center is offering several new Lay Leader Certification Programs and classes to enable lay and ordained leaders in our Diocese to meet the challenges of ministry in our post-modern society.  All of our classes are open to anyone interested in learning more about our faith.

Although in a sense it “replaced” the former Anglican School of Theology which closed in the spring of 2005, the Cathedral Center is a school unique unto itself.  The Center is a part of the life of the Cathedral, and Dean Kevin Martin explains that the Cathedral Parish is not only the seat of the Bishop and the oldest congregation in the Diocese; it is also a servant congregation to our clergy, the people of the diocese, and our East Dallas community.  Our hope, therefore, is that those who enroll in the Cathedral Center will see the Cathedral as their spiritual home away from home and feel that they are truly a part of this community in Christ.

Classes at the Cathedral Center for Ministry Formation meet one weekend per month.  Classes are held on Friday evening, all day Saturday, and Sunday afternoon at the Cathedral.  A community Eucharist is held on Saturday at 11:15 followed by a catered lunch in the Great Hall.

Courses which will begin in August of 2007 include: New Testament, Old Testament, Moral Theology, Spiritual Theology, Cross-Cultural Ministry,  Evangelism, Pastoral Care, Historical Theology, Youth Ministry, Sacramental Ministry of Deacons, and the History, Role, and Meaning of the Diaconate.  We are fortunate to have excellent instructors teaching all of these classes.  Of particular interest is our instructor for the New Testament class, Bishop James Stanton.  Each course may be taken for credit or you may choose to audit the class.

If you would like to receive more information about next year’s classes, please contact Deacon Nancy Powers, Cathedral Center Director at:  214-823-8134, Ext. 228; or email:  npowers@episcopalcathedral.org.
